Microdosing: Home for the Holidays

It’s the most wonderful time of the year - for some of us. While the holiday season brings fond memories, sweet treats, and familial love to most of us; it can be a challenging time for many others. In a time of increased stress, spending, and socialization, many folks find themselves drained by the Holiday Hustle.

Creating New Traditions of Self Care

There are many reasons the holidays can provoke uneasiness. Family death, breakup, traumatic childhood events, financial strain, loneliness, lack of cultural representation.

Microdosing this holiday season will help rewire the brain to create positive associations with this season. The intentional cultivation of love-centered activities will ease some of the stress.

With all the emphasis on connection, where do you fit into it all?

Remembering to keep a stable routine throughout all the parties will keep you on track with personal goals. Microdosing can help you find focus to complete your tasks and still have time for yourself. The holiday season can be hectic, with various responsibilities and commitments. Staying grounded is crucial for maintaining your well-being.

Here are some tips to help you stay grounded during the busy holiday season:

Make a list of priorities for the holiday season, focusing on what truly matters to you. Set realistic expectations for yourself and others. Accept that not everything will go as planned, and that's okay. Embrace imperfections and find joy in the unexpected moments. Focus on the positive aspects of the season rather than dwelling on minor setbacks.

It's okay to say no to certain events or activities if it helps reduce stress. Establish clear boundaries to protect your time and energy. Communicate your limits to others.

Allocate time for self-care activities, whether it's taking a warm bath, reading a book, or going for a walk. Practice mindfulness and stay present in the moment. Take deep breaths to calm your mind.

2 minutes of deep breathing in the car before entering a social event is a simple way to integrate this. If you find yourself getting overwhelmed, take a short break to reset. Stepping outside or into a quiet room can be helpful. Revisit your Microdose Intention during this time.

Incorporate regular physical activity into your routine. Exercise can help reduce stress and boost your mood. Even short walks or stretching sessions can make a significant difference. Take breaks from technology and social media. Constant notifications and updates can contribute to stress. Set specific times to check emails and messages, allowing yourself moments of digital detox.

Remember that the holidays are a time for joy and connection. By staying grounded and taking care of yourself, you can navigate the busyness with greater ease and enjoy the meaningful moments.

  • Gratitude without gifts exercise

What brings you joy? If there were no presents involved in this holiday season, what would be your favorite part? Cultivate a gratitude practice by regularly acknowledging and appreciating the positive aspects of your life. Consider keeping a gratitude journal to record things you are thankful for during the holiday season.

These gift ideas are focused on the gift of thought and time. They can be done with little to no cost. Demonstrate the thoughtful person you are and make those around feel special and unique.

Hand written letters or poems. Memory jars. Making a personalized video or song. Create a piece of art for them; or better yet, set up a day to create art WITH them!

TIP: a virtual craft date is a great way to spend quality time with a loved one who cannot close the distance for your holiday celebrations.

Making a sweet treat or meal.  Pursue shared interests or take up a new hobby together. Learning and growing together can be a fulfilling experience.

Providing your skills, coupons sound cheesy, but your skills are valuable. Offer photography, landscaping, financial coaching, interior design, or whatever skills you have and others don’t.

Do you have any books that you love? Passing on second hand gifts is a positive trend for many reasons. Well loved objects retain your loving energy and radiate it out onto the recipient. Secondhand gifts are environmentally and financially sustainable options as well.

Growing closer to those we love

Don't hesitate to delegate tasks and share responsibilities with others. You don't have to do everything on your own. Encourage family members or friends to contribute to holiday preparations.

Regularly express appreciation for the positive aspects of your relationship. Acknowledge the things your loved ones do that make a positive impact on your life. Acknowledge and celebrate each other's accomplishments, both big and small. This reinforces a positive and supportive dynamic. Be there for your loved ones during challenging times.

Offer a listening ear, emotional support, or practical assistance when needed. Practice active listening by giving your full attention, making eye contact, and responding thoughtfully. This helps the other person feel heard and understood.

Everyone has personal space and boundaries. Respect the autonomy of your loved ones and communicate openly about individual needs. Share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences openly. Vulnerability fosters trust and intimacy in relationships. Encourage discussions about feelings, needs, and expectations, and be willing to share your own.

When conflicts arise, be willing to apologize when necessary, and also be forgiving. Holding onto grudges or resentment can strain relationships. Practice forgiveness and communicate openly about issues to find resolutions and move forward. This helps maintain a positive and supportive atmosphere.
